Shows // Lyrics: Reg Ingliss & Son’s Melbourne Cup Parody

I laughed when I got asked to write this song parody about the racehorse Tie The Knot—Jackie The Horse “Writerer”! It was so much fun. They gave me his history and their hopes and I whipped it all up to the tune of Mack The Knife. I performed it at a dinner that was honoring the horse’s owners prior to his run in the Melbourne Cup. Unfortunately, the race did not fulfill my prophecy, it was not Tie The Knot’s day…

Brief: Song for Reg Ingliss & Son’s Melbourne Cup dinner in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Tait, the owners of the horse “Tie The Knot”.

Tie The Knot

Sung to the tune of Mack the Knife

“Nassipour” beams down from Heaven
“Whisked” just brims with mother’s pride
Cause their boy’s become a champion
With Guy Walters as his guide

See the chestnut colored gelding
Nothing special in his pace
Till he rises from his slumber
Then goes on to win the race

Oh, “Doriemus” down at Randwick
Really thought he’d won the lot
Till a streak came out of nowhere
Could that horse be “Tie the Knot”

Near two million and it’s climbing
Four group ones he scored to date
Can’t you see the Taits just smiling
When they see him at the gate

Now on Cup Day here in Melbourne
Shane Dye dresed in red and white
Must make sure he’s holding tightly
When this horse takes to his flight

Like a car he changes gear, dear
When the pressure’s all around
“Faithful Son” may eat his dust dear
“Tie the Knot” has won the crown
